·         Works across multiple domains

·         Primary focus directed to land and freshwater

The Ministry's purpose - he whenua mana kura mō te tangata - is to make New Zealand the most liveable place in the world – for our kids, their children and grandchildren. This means we act as stewards for the environment, so that New Zealand and New Zealanders continue to prosper.

The Investments and Partnerships Directorate works across multiple domains with our primary focus directed to land and freshwater. Key work priorities are increasing resource efficiency and waste minimisation, remediating contaminated sites, improving freshwater quality and enabling community based environmental participation.

Our stakeholders are diverse and include iwi, local government, the commercial sector and non-governmental organisations. Achieving tangible results by partnering with our stakeholders is critical to the success of this role.

Our primary legislative drivers are the Waste Minimisation Act, the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, the Resource Management Act, the Litter Act and the Local Government Act. Our operational policy is driven from primary legislation, National Environmental Standards and government direction (e.g. the New Zealand Waste Strategy). We also support the work of the Fiordland Marine Guardians through the Fiordland (Te Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Management Act 2005.

As well as leading your own Team, you will be a key member of the directorate leadership team and the wider managers' cohort. The directorate leadership team is responsible for driving the work programme of the directorate by aligning our activities and resources with the Ministry's priorities, and contributing to the Ministry's strategic decision making.

The Successful Candidate will be able to demonstrate:

·         significant management and leadership experience

·         a good understanding of te ao Māori

·         a high level of communication and interpersonal skill

·         a desire to influence and enable others to succeed

You will also have experience partnering with our key stakeholders from the commercial sector, iwi groups, local government and the community sector.

We value innovation, policy entrepreneurship and thought leadership, and our clear purpose and behaviours (our Edge) underpin all that we do.

We support flexible approaches to work to ensure that we have the best person for the role.
