St John is looking for staff to work in the Clinical Control Centre taking emergency and non-emergency calls. The opportunity will be based at the Precinct in the Central City.

You will encounter a wide range of calls and the nature of some will require a high level of resilience on your part - no two days are the same. This is an opportunity to mix empathy with reason as you work with the public to extract information and send the right assistance.

We are looking for people with exceptional communication skills and the ability to gather and analyse critical information quickly. You will need to be resilient and flexible with an expectation of working rostered shifts over a 24/7 operation in a 4 on (DDNN) 4 off pattern at the conclusion of initial training.

Essential criteria for this role:

  • Have a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm
  • Be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Ability to work rostered shifts
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to multi-task in a Windows operating environment
  • Excellent health and well-being

 The recruitment process is:

  1. Initial assessment through a phone interview - a Talent Sourcing Advisor will give you a call to assess your suitability based on the above 'must haves'.
  2. You will then be asked to attend an information evening on Monday, 24th of March
  3. From there we hold a 1 hour behavioural panel interview
  4. The next step in the process is an observation shift
  5. Psychometric assessment and due diligence

A thorough training and mentorship programme will provide the successful applicants with the skills and knowledge to undertake all aspects of this key role, including first aid, prioritizing calls, giving telephone advice and using the computerised triage system. The anticipated commencement date is 30th of April.
