Cultural linkages are crucial for local government, especially here in Nelson. The role of the Kaihautū is dedicated to strengthening those linkages, building positive, enduring relationships with mana whenua and Māori communities.

This role is an opportunity for a strong leader to help manage key stakeholder relationships, working closely to integrate Māori related initiatives and strategies throughout our organisation.

As an advisor to the Mayor, Council and Senior Leadership team, reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for building and supporting strategic relationships with whanau, hapu and iwi. You will also work with others to build the capability, skills and knowledge of Council staff, so that they can engage respectfully and effectively with Māori, and keep building partnerships within our community.

This is a rewarding role for someone who has the ability to engage, communicate and maintain relationships, enhancing Council’s reputation by leading significant cultural interactions.

Nelson City Council offers a flexible and supportive working environment, and you will be working with colleagues who are passionate about working together to make Nelson an even better place.

If you have the ability to maintain effective engagement, transparency and credibility to improve decision making processes across both organisational and Iwi objectives, you should apply online at nelson.govt.jobs

Interviews will be held in January 2018. For confidential enquiries, please contact Stephanie Vincent, Manager People & Capability on 027 285 8666.

Applications close on 17 December 2017.
