Vaka Tautua is a Pacific non-government organisation working at the cutting edge of health and socialservice provision in New Zealand. We are looking for two full time Community Loan Workers to join our team through our new collaboration with Good Shepherd New Zealand. These roles will deliver a socially responsible microfinance loan service to low income Pacific families to facilitate them receiving low or nointerest loans.

In this role, you will facilitate the end to end process of interviewing families, completing loan applications, and passing the loans through an approvals committee for sign off, as well as manage the loan book. The roles are based from our offices either in Manukau or Henderson, but it’s likely we will offer the service from other community locations so flexibility will be required.

We believe microfinance provides an opportunity for socially responsible lending and look forward to adding this new programme to our services. This will be challenging but rewarding work as you become involved in the lives of our low-income Pacific families.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Professionally manage a case load of clients in a down-to-earth and non-judgmental way.
2. Handle inquiries and conduct financial conversations with clients.
3. Promote Good Shepherd’s NILS and StepUP loan services.
4. Process loan applications, and oversee the repayment of loans.
5. Diligently complete all family records and paperwork, keeping all information up to date and accurate.
6. Deliver services in a culturally appropriate and competent manner, ensuring the integrity of each consumer’s culture is acknowledged and respected.

Desired Attributes:

• Knowledge of consumer lending, microfinance or experience providing social development services within a community-based context.
• The ability to facilitate group activities and network with stakeholder groups.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and fluency in a Pacific language.
• An understanding of lending processes and loan assessment.
• Good computer skills in Outlook and Word.
• A full clean driver’s license.

Training will be provided, so if you have a heart for Pacific and can meet all (or most) of the above attributes, plus you have a strong aptitude for handling financial matters, we look forward to hearing from you. It’s vitally important to us to deliver our programmes in a culturally sensitive and respectful way, so ideally you
will have a strong Pacific cultural identity and preferably be fluent in your Pacific language.
